Suspect in Muna Salad Kuri’s Death Arrested in Panama

The husband of a Somali woman murdered in her apartment earlier this month was arrested in Panama and returned to the United States by federal marshals on Thursday.

Police suspect Abdiaziz Kerow, 45, severely beat his 36-year-old wife, Muna Salad Kuri, and then fled the country.

On March 4 officers and paramedics were called to Kuri’s apartment in the 4000 block of Van Dyke Avenue, where they found her with traumatic injuries to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kuri, who ran a daycare center, was well known in the Somali community in City Heights. City Councilmember Georgette Gomez issued a statement earlier this month saying that the entire “District 9 community mourns the death of a beloved community member, Muna Kuri.”
